Here are some great programs that can help you and they come highly recommended, as I use them ALL:

WinXP Powertoys (Freeware)
Why not try some of the free add-on's for Windows. Some of them can really make real use of your valuable time.

IrfanView (Freeware)
IrfanView can convert different types of graphic files. Need a .bmp changed to a .gif? Well with this freeware program, you can do just that. You can also resize your image and clarify it also.

ZipGenius (Zip Program) A freeware program for unzipping files.

WinZip (Shareware, but...)
Or for an excellent shareware program try WinZip. It has so many options, it's great and includes the Drag & Drop feature. Now you can zip up all of your files and save more to disk than before. Also, there are several programs that require a Zip utility to unlock the files contained within.
